Hormones and your Hair

The rising level of male hormones during puberty is what changes the soft hair into course hair on several parts of the male body. The hair follicles respond to the hormones primarily testosterone and the head hair can change and become a little thicker as the weight of hairs may increase. Eventually this rise in testesterone (one of the hormones)can start to decline, most likely in the twenties or after and this is when male pattern baldness can begin. Therefore baldness is connected to testesterone but not because of too much but because it starts to decline. It may be that if your testesterone increased too much in puberty it may start to decline faster than usual and sooner than usual.
Nutrition and hair.
Stress will affect the health of your hair because stress affects your body’s nutritional balance as well as hormone balance. Hormones affect so many things including sleep this in turn becomes even more stress and our hair will suffer. One of the symptoms of stress on the hair may a condition called Alopecia Nervousa. Alopecia is not a very attractive sight as it takes the form of bald spots. Part of the treatment for this problem can be cortisone shots. Cortisone is a hormone based medication.
Some of the treatments for balding hair are in fact hormone based and most likely will have side effects.
